PMA 2010 Report
PMA 2010 - According to some internet retailers we can expect a new Pentax Optio W90 digital camera soon. The buzz is about a new waterproof digital camera, Pentax’ 11th generation waterproof camera; the Pentax Optio W90. The following information is based on the latest rumors but will probably pretty accurate. The Pentax W90 features a 12.1 Megapixel image sensor and a 5x optical 5X zoom lens covering focal lengths from 28 to 140 mm. Combining 12.1 megapixels with the Pentax-developed imaging engine and high-performance Pentax zoom lens, the Pentax Optio W90 should be able to deliver high quality pictures. The Pentax Optio W90 is shockproof to 4 feet.
PMA 2010 News - This information is based on unofficial info. According to a source who is to so to speak ‘active in the imaging industry’, and backed up with a product image scoop from the photorumors site we inform you about an upcoming Pentax megazoom camera. At the PMA 2010 the new Pentax X90 will be showcased. The Pentax X90 camera will feature an upgraded 26x optical zoom lens with wide angle to super telephoto range. Its predecessor, the Pentax X70, featured a 24x coverage. The Pentax X90 is a typical megazoom camera, SLR-like styling and flexible in its functions and settings. You may speak of a bridge between a compact and a DSLR camera, although the Micro Four Thirds cameras are on its way to fill that gap.

Pentax also attended PMA 2009, but the booth didn’t leave much to the imagination. The compact, completely white booth looked more similar to a sales booth than one for demonstrating and showcasing products. Naturally, the digital SLR cameras of Pentax were showcased as well as a new 15mm f/4 lens, although there was hardly any news, if even any at all, about DSLR cameras. Obviously, Pentax did not consider the PMA to be the right time to make an announcement. If you have doubts about a Pentax announcement coming up, be patient... for one or two months. By that time, we will reopen the Pentax book to add a new chapter...
According to a publication in the popular UK magazine Amateur Photographer, Pentax will appear at the next show in Japan with its digital medium format camera. A few years ago, Pentax announced the development of a digital medium format camera, and the model even received a name: Pentax 645 Digital. After that, however, the plan was stored on a shelf and seemed doomed to stay there. In an interview with John Carlson, product marketing and support manager of Pentax USA, Amateur Photographer was told that Pentax foresees possibilities on the Japanese market for this product. The upcoming Photo Imaging Expo, starting at the end of March in Tokyo, will be used to present the Pentax 645 Digital again.
