Olympus E-3 reviewed in Istanbul

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Friday 23rd, November 2007

Not even 3 weeks after returning from my trip to Kenya, where I attended the EOS Safari on the invitation of Canon, I found the next invitation on my digital doormat. This time it concerned an invitation from Olympus to Istanbul, Turkey, for the introduction of the long expected successor of the E1 to the press. Journalists from all over the world were flown into Turkey in groups to join the ten day event. Besides a number of Dutch colleagues, the Belgian and English press were also present during my stay. Upon our arrival at Istanbul's Atatürk airport a bus took us to the famous Topkapi palace. A guide gave us a tour through this beautiful cultural heritage and we were able to visit a few sections.

Olympus SP-550 Test Photos

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Friday 9th, March 2007

After a 3 hours sleep I was picked up by Olympus Europe to join a trip to Spring Mountain Ranch, about 30 miles from Las Vegas where the PMA 2007 show is held. Arriving before sunrise I was able to use the new Olympus SP550 UZ Megazoom digital camera in the field. This beast of a compact camera offers an amazing 18x optical zoom (28-504mm - 35mm equivalent) and a blazing speed of 15 fps. These features are just a small part of the total package this camera offers. How about P/S/A/M settings, optical image stabilizer, ISO up to 5000, 2.5-inch LCD, Super Macro mode which lets you shoot from as close as 1cm, and much more. I have to say; I am impressed with the versatility of the Olympus SP-550 UZ!

The PMA, or Photo Marketing Association, continues a long tradition of maintaining a network of photo imaging as well as the experience and know-how of the industry. The PMA represents 20,000 members from over 100 countries, who are all active within the imaging industry. As a reflection of the changes in the market, the PMA organization has also changed and has become more diverse. Nowadays, the member group consists of representatives coming from photo retail, manufacturers, commercial photo labs, professional sports and news photography, in addition to small album print suppliers and photo processing centers. The PMA 2010 focuses on an industry which is heavily affected by the unstable situation of the global financial economy. However, whether the latter will also stand in the way of the innovation and product introductions, remains to be revealed by the PMA International Convention and Trade Show in the Anaheim Convention Center in Southern California, USA.
