PMA 2010 Report

The answer to the question why Samsung hardly revealed any news during the Photokina 2008 could be the announcement of Samsung's new camera concept. At the time of writing this article, a few days before the PMA in Las Vegas kicks off, I have not yet managed to get hold of the Samsung NX camera. However, according to the information I received, Samsung may well be putting itself in the foreground during PMA. The new concept is likely to become a Samsung NX camera, a hybrid digital camera which could build bridges between the digital SLR and the compact camera. At first glance, the Samsung NX camera seems to use the best of both segments.

Olympus E620

Posted by: Mark Peters Wednesday 4th, March 2009

As children, our imaginations run wild and finger-painted artistic creations are proudly displayed on our family refrigerators. But as we grow older, we learn to color inside the lines, and have less and less time for art. We often lose touch with how satisfying it is to create something uniquely our own. Olympus delivers the new E-620 digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera to bring back that free-style experimenting and the magical feeling of being inspired by our own art. The new camera’s easy-to-use Art Filters and Multiple Exposures (built right into the camera) are fun for consumers - whether you’ve been shooting for years or picked up your first digital camera today.

Pentax K200D DSLR

Posted by: Mark Peters Sunday 3rd, February 2008

The entry-level series of Pentax digital SLR cameras continues with the introduction of the new Pentax K200D, featuring the acclaimed Pentax Shake Reduction (SR) system. Blurred hand-held photographs, particularly with telephotos or longer exposure times, are a thing of the past. Two sensors are used by the SR system to detect any vibrations and compensate for any movement by the 10.2 Megapixel CCD. This blurring protection system occurs directly at the CCD saving the user from having to acquire expensive special lenses. Thanks to the Pentax K-mount bayonet virtually any Pentax lens can be used with the new Pentax K200D digital SLR.

Pentax K20D DSLR

Posted by: Mark Peters Sunday 3rd, February 2008

The new Pentax K20D sets forth to build on the success of the acclaimed Pentax K10D which set new standards and established itself as a leading model in its class. A completely new camera concept has been developed for the Pentax K20D that clearly raises the standard for this class of digital SLR with its high performance features and extensive functions. Outwardly it is immediately clear that the Pentax K20D meets professional standards with its dust and splash-proof body. At the heart of the camera is a CMOS sensor with an effective resolution of 14.6 megapixels with extremely low noise characteristics. A further new development is Pixel mapping that interpolates failed pixels, avoiding disturbing white spots in the final image.

Samsung GX-20 DSLR

Posted by: Mark Peters Friday 1st, February 2008

The Norwegian supplier of Samsung digital cameras, among other things, has some great news to share besides the various new compact camera models; a new digital Samsung DSLR. The new Samsung GX-20 has not officially been launched yet, but according to the information of Aronsen, importer and supplier of Samsung and other brands, the Samsung GX20 is expected to occupy the shop-shelves in March. The Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2008 has only just ended but we are already preparing for the PMA show coming up also in Las Vegas. The official Samsung GX-20 Digital SLR introduction is likely to take place just before the start of this show. For now we have to settle for some scarce data.

Not that long ago, a large number of manufacturers presented their digital camera line on the PMA show floor. It had already been predicted that there would no longer be room for quite so many, and thus only for a handful of manufacturers. This is partially right, however, the offer of compact and DSLR cameras does not seem to have decreased. The compact camera has matured and true innovations are over, while the digital SLR is conquering more and more market share. The Micro Four Thirds system camera manufactured by Panasonic and Olympus, is the new kid on the block. Whether more manufacturers will adopt the Micro Four Thirds during the PMA International Convention and Trade Show, or whether they will come with their own 'Micro' system like Samsung, remains to be seen.
