Canon G9 review

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Friday 7th, December 2007

Sometimes digital camera manufacturers actually listen to testers and users of digital cameras. In any case Canon did when developing the PowerShot G7. A terrific camera except for one minus; no RAW format was available and especially the photographer wanting a compact camera besides his DSLR was disappointed. But the successor, the Canon PowerShot G9, does offer RAW format making this top compact camera a very interesting one for the demanding and the professional photographer. Adding RAW format is not the only thing Canon has changed on the G9. The Canon G9 is now equipped with a new image sensor with 12 million pixels.

Ricoh GR Digital 2 Preview

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Friday 7th, December 2007

Two years have already passed since Ricoh digitalized the famous GR camera and introduced the GR Digital. In September 2005 I received a pre-production model of the Ricoh GR Digital and now, two years later, the successor lies in front of me: the Ricoh GR Digital II. Over the past few years many hundreds of new digital cameras have been introduced and to say that each and every one of them is a unique piece, would be exaggerated. The majority of these digital cameras belongs to the compact camera category and these cameras offer more or less the same functions and quality compared with each other. Once in a blue moon a camera will stand out and boost on a unique concept.

Nikon D3 Sample Photos

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Friday 7th, December 2007

During a short stay in Florence, Italy, I used the new Nikon D3 professional digital SLR camera mainly in the evening and on many beautiful historical places, mostly inside museums and old buildings, to take a number of test pictures. Already various reactions of preproduction model testers and professional photographers have been published and in general one can say that the Nikon D3 is an impressive new Digital SLR and a strong weapon for Nikon to (re)gain their share of the professional photography market. I have used the Nikon D3 in combination with the new AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED and the AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lenses and additionally the 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor.

Olympus E-3 reviewed in Istanbul

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Friday 23rd, November 2007

Not even 3 weeks after returning from my trip to Kenya, where I attended the EOS Safari on the invitation of Canon, I found the next invitation on my digital doormat. This time it concerned an invitation from Olympus to Istanbul, Turkey, for the introduction of the long expected successor of the E1 to the press. Journalists from all over the world were flown into Turkey in groups to join the ten day event. Besides a number of Dutch colleagues, the Belgian and English press were also present during my stay. Upon our arrival at Istanbul's Atatürk airport a bus took us to the famous Topkapi palace. A guide gave us a tour through this beautiful cultural heritage and we were able to visit a few sections.

Sony Alpha A700 Review

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Monday 29th, October 2007

The Sony Alpha A700 is equipped with a newly developed 12.2 MP CMOS image sensor and works with a focal length multiplier of 1.5x. The housing consists of a combination of aluminum alloy and polycarbonate and is mostly waterproof and dustproof thanks to extra attention that has been paid to the closure of covers etc. The weight of a tad less than 800 grams (778 grams without lens) is pleasant to work with and makes the camera lie stable in my hand. The beautiful large sized LCD screen on the back of the Sony A700 is definitely breathtaking. This 3-inch high resolution LCD screen surely adds a surplus value to this camera.

PMA 2009 - The digital SLR camera market is booming. Compared to last year the DSLR camera sales increased with impressive numbers and it seems the digital SLR camera has become a mass consumer product. New entry level D-SLR cameras with 6 Megapixels surprisingly were welcomed very well by the amateur photographer and it seems that within this segment of the digital camera market the resolution range of 6 - 10 Megapixel fulfils the need of the amateur photographer. Without lenses the digital SLR camera would not be complete and it is for that reason we see a huge number of digital SLR lens introductions appear this year. There are multiple camera manufacturers offering their best own brand solution for its DSLR camera, but there are even more specialized lens manufacturers who offer an impressive number of lens solutions too. Keep your eye on the digital SLR lens section of this PMA 2009 report for the latest introductions!
