Casio digital cameras at PMA

PMA 2010 Report

The PMA introduction of the EXILIM EX-Z29 at the PMA 2009 does not seem to be the top of Casio's business. Casio took along its latest series of EXILIM digital cameras, among which were the small speed devils that were introduced at the CES show. The Casio booth seemed somewhat empty, and the speed at which you can shoot with a Casio EXILIM demonstrated is outstanding, but by now, I've seen it all. Speed is a nice feature, but what does it actually do in practice? The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX1 digital camera should be a great example to Casio. A new Megazoom camera at which the speed is used to capture neat panorama pictures with astonishing ease.

Casio cameras and the Micro Four Thirds system
I was still hoping for an announcement that Casio would join the Micro Four Thirds system like Panasonic and Olympus. This system would get things going for Casio too, and it would benefit from Casio's innovative way of working. Although Casio has claimed on many occasions that the digital SLR market is no option and a market share in this segment is out of the question, a rather new market such as the Micro Four Thirds could be a fair chance for an outsider to conquer a share of this segment. Perhaps this strategy is still in stock for Casio, and it is too early for this kind of announcement.

Casio Exilim digital cameras
The new Casio EXILIM digital cameras feature new functions which enable you to edit the picture in a most creative way. It's a nice extra, but to say it is genuinely innovative would be exaggerated. We expect a couple of Casio test samples soon, and we will put these new Casio EXILIM cameras through extensive DIWA Lab tests.

The PMA show, or Photo Marketing Association, continues its yearly tradition of maintaining a network of photo imaging as well as the experience and know-how of the industry. The PMA represents 20,000 members from over 100 countries, who are all active within the imaging industry. As a reflection of the changes in the market, the PMA organization has also changed and has become more diverse. Nowadays, the member group consists of representatives coming from photo retail, manufacturers, commercial photo labs, professional sports and news photography, in addition to small album print suppliers and photo processing centers. The PMA 2012 Trade show focuses on an industry which is heavily affected by the unstable situation of the global financial economy. However, whether the latter will also stand in the way of the innovation and product introductions, remains to be revealed by the PMA International Convention & Trade Show in Anaheim Convention Center (California, US).
