During the worldwide introduction of the new Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR, we were already able to provide a preview. During the PMA in Las Vegas, I took a production model of the Fujifilm F200EXR along to get started for the upcoming review. The Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR is the first camera to feature the new Super CCD EXR image sensor. This sensor was officially introduced at the Photokina 2008 and is a technical innovation of which Fujifilm has very high expectations indeed. The history of Fujifilm sensors shows that a lot of effort is generally put into research, in order to improve pixel quality without prioritizing on pixel amounts. As far as we're concerned, this is an excellent choice.

Super CCD EXR uses a flexible and high precision exposure control to capture two images of the same scene simultaneously. One picture is taken with high sensitivity and the other with low sensitivity. These two pictures are then merged into one picture that will provide optimal depth and range. The structure of the Super CCD EXR uses all the pixels in the layer below the new color filter matrix, as well as the optimized signal processing of the RP processor to provide pictures with optimum resolution quality. Although the sensor is designed for 'Dual Capture' for a large dynamic range and 'Pixel Fusion' for minimum noise, it performs just as well as the last 12 Megapixel Super CCD sensors thanks to a new filter and the special design of the photo diodes.

In addition to the 12 Megapixel 1/1.6 inch Super CCD EXR and an improved Real Photo Processor, the Fujifilm F200 EXR adopted several functions of the FinePix F100fd. For example; the Fujinon 5x optical wide-angle zoom lens, a 3 inch wide screen LCD with 230,000 pixels and a powerful detection technology; Face Detection 3.0 with auto red-eye removal. Moreover, the Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR digital camera offers 6 Film simulation modes, an HD picture-out, dual image stabilization, and sensitivity up to ISO 12800 (at 3 million pixels).

The Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR sample photos were taken in Vegas with a full production compact camera which means that this camera is equal to the model that the consumer can expect to purchase. Our DIWA camera test lab has already fully tested the Fujifilm FinePix F200 EXR compact camera under laboratory circumstances from a technical viewpoint. The next few weeks we will test the Fujifilm F200EXR in practice and come up with a review soon. Take a look at our full Las Vegas gallery !

The PMA show, or Photo Marketing Association, continues its yearly tradition of maintaining a network of photo imaging as well as the experience and know-how of the industry. The PMA represents 20,000 members from over 100 countries, who are all active within the imaging industry. As a reflection of the changes in the market, the PMA organization has also changed and has become more diverse. Nowadays, the member group consists of representatives coming from photo retail, manufacturers, commercial photo labs, professional sports and news photography, in addition to small album print suppliers and photo processing centers. The PMA 2012 Trade show focuses on an industry which is heavily affected by the unstable situation of the global financial economy. However, whether the latter will also stand in the way of the innovation and product introductions, remains to be revealed by the PMA International Convention & Trade Show in Anaheim Convention Center (California, US).
