During a short stay in Florence, Italy, I used the new Nikon D3 professional digital SLR camera mainly in the evening and on many beautiful historical places, mostly inside museums and old buildings, to take a number of test pictures. Already various reactions of preproduction model testers and professional photographers have been published and in general one can say that the Nikon D3 is an impressive new Digital SLR and a strong weapon for Nikon to (re)gain their share of the professional photography market. I have used the Nikon D3 in combination with the new AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED and the AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lenses and additionally the 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor.

Nikon D3 DSLR- Dual Flash memory support
The Nikon D3 is the world’s first D-SLR to offer dual CompactFlash card slots for outstanding storage flexibility. A digital photographer can shoot images to each card one after the other, or simultaneously, as back up. When shooting combined NEF + JPEG files, the NEF image can be written to one card and the JPEG version to the other. Image files can also be selected and copied from one card to the other after shooting.

The Nikon D3 is the first full-frame or in other words; FX, digital SLR camera of the assortment. Before the Nikon FX camera was revealed, some negative talk went on about an eventual step to a 35mm format sensor. Wasn't it true that Nikon had entirely chosen for the DX format? Well, in fact, they had not. Nikon never shut the door on the FX format and one could expect an assortment of DX and FX sensors to appear eventually. The moment the first experiences of photographers using the new D3 on the level it is meant for appeared and the appearance of the first test pictures, things were clear at once. The new Nikon D3 DSLR camera made worldwide such an impression that the past was quickly forgotten and that attention was paid only to the new product and its impressive specifications.

The professional photography market is in the spotlight once again thanks to the Nikon D3 available for the professional and even for the advanced semipro. The product is very much alive, various forums are full of comments and praise for the performance of Nikon's new top model. At present we have a full production sample in the office and we will publish an in-depth Nikon D3 review soon. Currently a sample of the Nikon D3 is being extensively technically tested according to the most accurate and modern test procedure in our DIWA Labs in Norway where Kai Thon, test manager of DIWA Awards holds sway. PMA 2009 - The digital SLR camera market is booming. Compared to last year the DSLR camera sales increased with impressive numbers and it seems the digital SLR camera has become a mass consumer product. New entry level D-SLR cameras with 6 Megapixels surprisingly were welcomed very well by the amateur photographer and it seems that within this segment of the digital camera market the resolution range of 6 - 10 Megapixel fulfils the need of the amateur photographer. Without lenses the digital SLR camera would not be complete and it is for that reason we see a huge number of digital SLR lens introductions appear this year. There are multiple camera manufacturers offering their best own brand solution for its DSLR camera, but there are even more specialized lens manufacturers who offer an impressive number of lens solutions too. Keep your eye on the digital SLR lens section of this PMA 2009 report for the latest introductions!
