PMA 2008 Report

One thing became very clear with Fujifilm, at the Photokina 2006 : face detection is going to be it! And the technique is ready to be built in cameras standard. With this, Fujifilm can fall back on their extensive knowledge of minilabs. There, the technique has been used for years, among other things, to be able to tune colours perfectly. One of the first models with face detection is the Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd. The indication fd stands for face detection. The sensor is building another very important part of the Real Photo Technology. Fujifilm has been using the Super CCD for a long time, and the Fujifilm S6500fd has been equipped with the 6th generation already, the Super CCD VI HR.

Fuji S6500fd - Face detection
Fujifilm's Face Detection technology means the Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd can identify up to ten faces in a frame and automatically optimise settings for perfectly sharp, natural looking people pictures. Wherever a face appears in the frame, irrespective of portrait or landscape composition, the Fujifilm S6500fd camera recognises it as the primary subject. It sets focus and exposure leaving the person behind the camera to concentrate on getting the best poses from their subjects.

Fuji FinePix S6500 fd - Large zoom range
Just like its predecessor, the Fujifilm S6500fd has a large zoom range. This would be 28 - 300mm, compared to a 35mm camera. A range starting with a 28mm wide angle is very good news. On the other hand we have the 300mm tele-range. Especially in tele, the chance of blurring increases rapidly. Therefore, the Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd has been equipped with an optical image stabilizer. This is certainly no superfluous luxury. The lens is one part of the trinity (Real Photo Technology) that establishes the quality. The other parts are the processor and, of course, the image sensor. Thus, Fujifilm has chosen for a high-quality lens for the Fujifilm S6500fd. The camera may be intended for the ordinary consumer, for Fujifilm this does not mean that quality needs to decrease. Also praiseworthy is, that the Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd is equipped with a lens hood; this offers extra protection and contributes to the quality of the recording.

Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd Megazoom review
The Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd Megazoom camera is especially intended for the amateur and the hobbyist. However, the number of functions on the camera has been expanded and through the innovative techniques that have been applied, one can do a lot with the camera. That the Fujifilm S6500fd doesn't use the widely accepted Secure Digital or CompactFlash flash memory cards, but xD Picture cards, appears logically. Fujifilm, after all, is one of the founders of that standard. Although, with the new Fujifilm models, also Secure Digital appears to be supported. Fujifilm gave us the Fujifilm S6500fd to our disposition. Our experiences are to be read in the following Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd review, including test images.

Compared to last year the DSLR camera sales increased with impressive numbers and it seems the digital SLR camera has become a mass consumer product. Without lenses the digital SLR camera would not be complete and it is for that reason we see a huge number of digital SLR lens introductions appear this year. There are multiple camera manufacturers offering their best own brand solution for its DSLR camera, but there are even more specialized lens manufacturers who offer an impressive number of lens solutions too. Keep your eye on the digital SLR lens section of this PMA 2009 report for the latest introductions!
