PMA 2008 Report

Although the major part of the new cameras has been introduced long before the PMA 2007 started, it is always a pleasure to attend the PMA. Besides visiting the booths, we centre on numerous conversations with new and existing contacts and at the same time it is a joy to annually meet our colleagues. The location of this year's PMA was Las Vegas and not Orlando, to the mere delight of most of us. It remains the ideal mixture: entertainment and photography. And Las Vegas is one of the most suitable places to offer such an event. According to the information I received we will be able to visit the PMA on this very same location for the next few years and Orlando is left out for a while.

12 Megapixel digital cameras
PMA 2007 has finished. What's left for us to do in the coming months is testing a large part of the cameras that have been introduced in the first quarter of 2007. In the mean time we have already received the first models and we will shortly publish some reviews. The thing we learned from this PMA is that the Megapixel race is not over yet. Although camera manufacturers like Canon tried to make us believe that 6 Megapixels suffice, are the same manufacturers happily carrying on increasing the amount of pixels and a 10 Megapixel camera is not a rare phenomenon nowadays. Sony even hold an early product with their 12 Megapixel camera and strangely enough almost no attention has been paid to this extravagance.

General Imaging digital cameras
Newcomer on the market is General Imaging and I did notice that the assortment of digital compact cameras appealed to the public. Even though the booth was of enormous size compared to the showcased product, it was a successful introduction looking at the amount of media attention they received. The question now is how General Imaging will develop and if or when we can expect their first products on the digital imaging market.

PMA Show Report
LetsGoDigital's special PMA web site is offering the entire review of the PMA 2007. Besides numerous camera introductions, compact and SLR, a lot of attention was given to software, printing solutions, lenses, accessories and flash memory cards. Digital Imaging has become a daily item, not much has changed for many people, other than the manner of taking pictures. For others digital imaging might become a new hobby and perhaps a future profession as a professional photographer. The rise of the digital SLR camera enriches the digital photography market a lot and in that respect I see many possibilities for the traditional photo manufacturer!

The digital SLR camera market is booming. Compared to last year the DSLR camera sales increased with impressive numbers and it seems the digital SLR camera has become a mass consumer product. New entry level D-SLR cameras with 6 Megapixels surprisingly were welcomed very well by the amateur photographer and it seems that within this segment of the digital camera market the resolution range of 6 - 10 Megapixel fulfils the need of the amateur photographer. Without lenses the digital SLR camera would not be complete and it is for that reason we see a huge number of digital SLR lens introductions appear this year. There are multiple camera manufacturers offering their best own brand solution for its DSLR camera, but there are even more specialized lens manufacturers who offer an impressive number of lens solutions too. Keep your eye on the digital SLR lens section of this PMA 2007 report for the latest introductions!
