PMA 2008 Report

It seemed somewhat unusual to find out that SanDisk did not use the PMA 2007 for massive introduction of new or upgraded products. Only small announcements were made, like the introduction of the SanDisk 8GB Ultra II SDHC memory card and an enhancement of the Extreme III assortment, but that was all. The flash memory market is going through incredibly vigorous times. Prices have been dropping as they never have before and even the smallest providers went along in this flow; more or less forced by the competition. Most providers know they can't keep up for long. SanDisk announced even before the PMA in Las Vegas started that they will take their precautions to be able to get along.

SanDisk Flash Memory
The assortment of SanDisk products has strongly increased compared to a few years ago. The strong growth of the mobile imaging market is to thank for this increase. On large scale mobile equipment is being introduced, without a standard for a memory card, just like is the case with digital cameras. Thus giving room to a lot of miniature memory cards, manufactured with various speeds and storage capacity.

Storage Capacity
It is amazing to experience that the possibility still exists of doubling the storage capacity once again, enabling speeds that can't even be reached by a contemporary camera. It makes us very curious to find out what the flash memory market will do this year and what the outcome of this massive price drop will be for the availability of the memory cards and the existence of the small (Asian) providers.

The digital SLR camera market is booming. Compared to last year the DSLR camera sales increased with impressive numbers and it seems the digital SLR camera has become a mass consumer product. New entry level D-SLR cameras with 6 Megapixels surprisingly were welcomed very well by the amateur photographer and it seems that within this segment of the digital camera market the resolution range of 6 - 10 Megapixel fulfils the need of the amateur photographer. Without lenses the digital SLR camera would not be complete and it is for that reason we see a huge number of digital SLR lens introductions appear this year. There are multiple camera manufacturers offering their best own brand solution for its DSLR camera, but there are even more specialized lens manufacturers who offer an impressive number of lens solutions too. Keep your eye on the digital SLR lens section of this PMA 2007 report for the latest introductions!
