PMA 2008 Report
Besides a large amount of digital compact cameras, among them the new Sony Cybershot DSC-W200, one of the world's first 12 Megapixel digital cameras, a twosome Alpha concept digital SLR cameras has been showcased together with some eight new lenses. Not a word about technical specifications, expectations, availability or what's so ever; only a sign to show that there is still life after the Sony Alpha 100. The aforementioned concept models had been displayed in a glass showcase and at first sight it looks like we are dealing with a semi- and a professional digital SLR camera model. The latest inside news tells us that at least one of them will get introduced this year.

Besides that, a number of new lenses are to be expected, developed by Sony themselves and not coming from the Konica Minolta inheritance this time. All in all; Sony is giving out a clear signal that the launch of the Sony Alpha 100 last year will not remain the solemn copy but they are clearly planning on supporting more segments and thus conquering a larger market share.

Sony Cybershot Cameras
It is not difficult to imagine Sony claiming a market share of the amateur camera market segment but to be honest I can not imagine the professional photographer choosing a professional Sony SLR camera. Looking at the size of the prism housing, one can expect a full-format DSLR soon and that would mean that Sony will encounter their opponent named Canon, currently mastering the full-format 35 mm camera market. Unless of course Sony has other plans with full-format, for example not aiming directly at the professional but in stead aiming at the middle segment. Personally I am very curious about the developments around the Sony Alpha SLR cameras.
Sony Cybershot DSC-G1
Naturally Sony had a lot more to offer on the PMA than just a few concept models and the booth had been covered with numerous image solutions. Not only did they show the nicely designed Vaio notebooks but also the new series of Cybershot cameras. No doubt Sony has an extremely broad portfolio of digital imaging solutions. Remarkable is the new Sony Cybershot DSC-G1 camera; a small camera with an impressively large 3.5-inch LCD screen, wireless connection and an inbuilt memory of no less than 2GB. Sony's presentation at PMA 2007 made it clear that Sony don't take the digital camera market for granted, on the contrary in fact!
