PMA 2008 Report

Iwas just passing by the Sony booth and was looking at the collection of Sony Alpha lenses and cameras…. Wait a minute, did I say cameras? YES, Sony showcased two new Sony Alpha digital SLR cameras without giving away specifications or date of introduction. However I managed to get some information and of course I am free to speculate of course. Megapixels? I don't know and the Sony people made sure no one is mentioning anything about this to anyone. Ok, let me start with the first new Sony Alpha digital SLR camera; this new model is aimed at the high amateur looking for a higher level of performance than the A100 for advanced users. What does this mean? Beats me, but it sure looks promising!

According to my information the new semi professional Sony Alpha model incorporates a newly developed image sensor and BIONZ processor achieving high level total picture quality. The new Alpha SLR features in camera image stabilization and is targeted to meet the higher demands for performance and specification requirements of high amateur photographers. I would be surprised if we don't see this new Sony Alpha digital SLR camera being introduced before the holiday season!

The second model is supposed to become the flagship model of the Alpha series. This new professional model incorporates also a newly developed image sensor and BIONZ processor achieving high level total picture quality. The professional Sony Alpha SLR features in camera image stabilization and is targeted to meet the higher demands for performance and specification requirements of even professional photographers. When will this high end model be introduced officially or even available is very difficult to predict, however it seems that there is a big press conference coming up pretty soon after the PMA 2007, so we are gonna hold our breath a little bit longer…

And if it is not already enough I saw eight new Sony lenses being showcased next to the two new Sony Alpha digital SLR cameras. The eight new lenses seems to vary from amateur to the more professional zoom and prime lenses. The lenses missed any information or specifications so it was hard to predict any focal length or brightness of the lenses. It seems Sony finally understand that the audience is expecting more than just one model and decided to start up the fire during this PMA 2007 event. Will be continued as soon as there becomes more information available!

PMA 2009 - The digital SLR camera market is booming. Compared to last year the DSLR camera sales increased with impressive numbers and it seems the digital SLR camera has become a mass consumer product. New entry level D-SLR cameras with 6 Megapixels surprisingly were welcomed very well by the amateur photographer and it seems that within this segment of the digital camera market the resolution range of 6 - 10 Megapixel fulfils the need of the amateur photographer. Without lenses the digital SLR camera would not be complete and it is for that reason we see a huge number of digital SLR lens introductions appear this year. There are multiple camera manufacturers offering their best own brand solution for its DSLR camera, but there are even more specialized lens manufacturers who offer an impressive number of lens solutions too. Keep your eye on the digital SLR lens section of this PMA 2009 report for the latest introductions!
