Just before the beginning of Photokina in Germany last year, Fujifilm announced the arrival of a digital SLR camera from the S-series for spring 2007 - the Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro. This announcement came at the right moment, especially for the faithful group of Fujifilm DSLR photographers who were willing to invest again in a digital SLR camera to bring them back up to date technologically. Many other manufacturers were busy expanding their DSLR range at a rapid pace, and everyone expected Fujifilm to also come up with something of the sort. We had the opportunity to take a closer look at one of the first pre-production samples of the S5 Pro to give you an exclusive comprehensive first impression.

It's true that Fujifilm is dependent on third parties like the Nikon D200 case, but the technology and everything else about this camera gives you that Fujifilm feeling. The Fujifilm feeling can best be described as the way in which Fujifilm approaches imaging. On one hand, there's the technology of the hardware, and the way in which the image is formed internally within the camera, on the other hand there's the feeling that they have looked at the picture in more depth.

Fujifilm S5 Pro SLR camera - Face detection
You can notice that technology and innovation from various divisions have come together to be included in the Fujifilm S5 Pro DSLR. Take the face detection or the way in which the character of the picture has been handled. Techniques and methods from the film, industry translated into a digital version. Techniques from a Fujifilm Frontier digital minilab integrated in a digital camera, etc. The small details reveal the conceptual depth that the FinePix S5 Pro stands for.

Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro - Total imaging package
“It is clear that Fujifilm have taken their long years of experience with image, both in terms of technology and quality, translated it into a digital version and then used it to create a magnificent semi-professional body. It's a nice stroke of luck that Fujifilm can hitch a lift on the success of the Nikon D200. As far as I'm concerned, the many extras provided by Fujifilm make it interesting enough to be a first choice for photographers in this segment. The body has already proven itself in practice and won't let you down. The Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro is a total package, which has made a conscious decision to approach image in a totally different way. I'm impressed!"

The new Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro is the successor to the S3 Pro and has lots of new, innovative features and improvements. We had the opportunity to take a closer look at one of the first pre-production samples of the S5 Pro camera and the following Fujifilm FinePix S5 preview gives an exclusive comprehensive first impression, including a comparison chart and photo gallery.

The PMA show, or Photo Marketing Association, continues its yearly tradition of maintaining a network of photo imaging as well as the experience and know-how of the industry. The PMA represents 20,000 members from over 100 countries, who are all active within the imaging industry. As a reflection of the changes in the market, the PMA organization has also changed and has become more diverse. Nowadays, the member group consists of representatives coming from photo retail, manufacturers, commercial photo labs, professional sports and news photography, in addition to small album print suppliers and photo processing centers. The PMA 2012 Trade show focuses on an industry which is heavily affected by the unstable situation of the global financial economy. However, whether the latter will also stand in the way of the innovation and product introductions, remains to be revealed by the PMA International Convention & Trade Show in Anaheim Convention Center (California, US).
